Now that Leftbank has closed, some of us have been searching for an alternative place to have brunch and sangria on the Nile to celebrate special occasions. Luckily, hidden away just around the corner from Leftbank is Crimson.
On the northern tip of Zamalek on the beautiful leafy Sharia Kamal Al Tawil facing the Nile, Crimson is on the fourth floor of a building with a large terrace with great views of the Nile. In addition to the beautiful terrace, the interior of the restaurant is full of plants and the design is refreshingly modern.
I happened to eat here as a surprise for my birthday and will jump at another opportunity to go again. We ordered smoked salmon eggs benedict, a favourite of ours, and would fully recommend it. The food we had was great, the portions generous and the ingredients were high quality. With a good menu of trendy international dishes and drinks, it shouldn't be too hard to find something you fancy.
Crimson is definitely a little expensive, but the quality of the food and the setting justify the price tag. While it may not be a place most of us would be able to pop in for regular lunches, for the occasional brunch, lunch or dinner, it's a great restaurant that should be in your list of place to go to.
At night, I've been told that it turns into a lively bar as well, although it can get busy as the sun sets, so a reservation is a must.
